You are probably wondering “Who is John Haviland?”
For the last 18 months the BCRPUSA (British and Commonwealth Remembrance Project) has been placing plaques honouring the 10 US citizens who flew in WWII with the RAF in the Battle of Britain. They have dedicated plaques in each of the pilots' home states. At present there is only one plaque they have not found a location for, and that is New York.
Amazingly - the New York pilot was born in Mount Kisco in 1921!
Please join us as we unveil the plaque in honour of this amazing man at The Ambleside Pub on September 19th. We will be joined by representatives from The Daughters of the British Empire, The UK Consulate, the UK Assistant Air and Space Attaché to the United States and representation from the embassy. The mayor of Mount Kisco will also be present to say a few words on behalf of the village.
More details to come - but we are so honoured to have been selected to display this plaque.
